Fall at RWU

It is now just about mid-semester, and it has suddenly gotten much cooler. Just last Friday, it was about 80 degrees, and now the temperature hovers around 60, if that. I suppose that fall has finally arrived. Even though the weather is colder, I still enjoy being on the coast. It feels good to don a sweatshirt and sunglasses, step outside into the sunshine, and spend some time by the bay. The campus is so peaceful during the day. I love it.

A few weeks ago, my roommates and I received a detripling notice, and my triple room is now a double! It’s nice to have more space, and my former roommate lives upstairs now, so she’s still nearby. Also, my bed is lower, so I no longer have to climb up to a top bunk every night. My current roommate and I have now been working on making our room feel like home, and I’d say that we’re doing a pretty good job.

Classes continue to go well, but midterms are coming up for several of my classes, which makes me cringe. Photography class has proved to be a lot of work. Today, I spent about 8 hours in the darkroom printing photos. It was hard work, but I got a lot accomplished, and I even had fun because a few of my friends were in there working at the same time. I am learning a lot in my basic design class. I now know how to draw on the computer using Illustrator. It’s awesome! My math tutoring job is becoming rewarding. About six students came to a review session for a test, and they left feeling very confident that they would do well on the test. Knowing that I helped them to understand makes my job worthwhile.

At the student involvement fair, I decided to join Intervarsity, the Inter Residence Hall Association (IRHA), the Outing Club, and the Multicultural Student Union (MSU). All the meetings and activities have been keeping me extremely busy! But I’ve been having a good time, and it has helped me to meet a lot of cool people. I am also thinking about joining the ultimate frisbee team, although it is mostly guys. I’ll need to get in shape so that I can keep up.

This past weekend was a long weekend due to Columbus Day, so I headed to Boston to visit some friends. Making a trip to Boston (or other places) is so easy from campus, which I like because that means that I can go places frequently. I just have to hop on the RIPTA and then get on a bus or train in Providence. Anyways, I had a fantastic time in Boston and did a lot of shopping. I’m afraid a little too much...my cash is running low! But I’ll make it. I just have to wait until my next paycheck.

Homecoming and Family Weekend is coming up...I haven’t seen my parents since they dropped me off at school, so hopefully they will come down for it. There should be a lot of events going on during it, so I’m excited. Also, Thanksgiving is drawing closer and closer. Time seems to be passing quickly now that I’m so busy.

Well, I need to relax now. I haven’t had a chance to rest since spending all that time in the darkroom!

Until next time,
Katie
