Beginning of Semester

I have now been at school for over two weeks. What an experience it has been!

I live in a forced triple in Willow. When I got the email saying that I was going to be in a forced triple, my heart sank. Two roommates?? One has the potential to be bad enough. While packing at home, I feared that our room would be the size of a closet and that there would be nowhere for all of our stuff to go. How were three girls going to survive in one room? With all of these thoughts running through my head, I finally arrived at school, registered, and walked into my dorm room. Much to my relief, it was bigger than I thought it would be, and it turned out that we had plenty of room for everything. Now we are all settled in and have even added some tasteful decorations. Unfortunately, I can’t claim responsibility for any of them.

My roommates are awesome. Even though we are all different, we accept each other for who we are and get along great. We haven’t been at school that long, but already we have helped each other through some hard times.

Lately, I have been quite busy. I have at least two classes every day. I am also a math tutor and spend time in the math center every weekday except for Friday. Two of my classes are four hours long. Surprisingly enough, the time passes fairly quickly (if that is possible). One of the classes is a photography class, which I think will be a lot of fun once we start taking photographs and developing them in the darkroom. The other class is an intro to design class, so we spend a lot of time on such programs as Adobe Illustrator. I love designing things on the computer, so I love my design class, even if it it four hours long. I should probably mention that the teachers for both classes give us a break that allows us to rest, get coffee, et cetera, so it’s not four hours straight. My other classes are going smoothly, although they are not as exciting, in my opinion. I am not looking forward to a semester’s worth of history classes. History itself fascinates me. However, history class, when taking notes is required, has never held my interest. My eye often looks at the clock, watching the eighty minutes worth of class time slowly pass by. In the teacher’s defense, he tries to make the material interesting and is able to communicate to us on our level. The class is not as bad as it could be. Overall, I am having a good academic experience thus far.

Despite the fact that I’ve been doing a lot of work for school, I’ve also managed to have fun. I have made a lot of friends here on campus, and we have gone on various adventures together. I’ve been to Providence, which has its nice areas and its...not so nice areas. Newport was cool, but busy. I went with a few of my friends, and we went to the beach and then went out to dinner. Fortunately, we drove instead of taking the RIPTA (the bus). We would have had to do a lot of walking to get to the beach if we’d taken the bus. Besides traveling off campus, I have gone kayaking several times and have even played tennis. The weather here has been amazing. However, “has been” is the key phrase. It rained today, and it looks like it might rain again tomorrow. I hear that it can be rainy for long periods of time at RWU. I hope that doesn’t happen for a while. I prefer sunshine.

This past Saturday, I went to the annual 80’s dance, which was a lot of fun. Some people had pretty outrageous costumes. I had a great time dressing up, although I don’t think that I looked like I was from the 80’s. I didn’t come to school prepared with the appropriate clothing, but I’ll know for future reference. The dance was intense, so when I got tired, I took breaks by going to play pool or foosball. I ended the night by going to a friend’s dorm to eat pizza. The pizza took over an hour to arrive, but when it did, it was absolutely delicious. All in all, it was a great night.

Well, I should probably do some homework now.
Be looking for my next blog sometime later in the semester…
In the meantime, here are several pictures!
