Spring Flings

In recent years, the RWU Law community has enjoyed two singular spring traditions, the Public Interest Auction, which raises money to support summer jobs for our students with non-profit organizations, and the semi-formal event of the year, the Barrister’s Ball.

For the first time the Auction was held in downtown Providence, and the Federal Reserve provided not just an upscale setting but also prompted a much bigger turnout, for the first time including a significant number of alums and other members of the legal community taking advantage of the proximity of the new location.  The event raised over $20,000 for summer stipends (which supplements the $50,000 already donated by the University and Law School; in this economic climate, public interest organizations need volunteer legal help more than ever!).  Highlights included Matt Manne (once again) outbidding all others for the coveted Dean’s Parking Place and top dollar going for dinner with Prof. Tony Santoto on the legendary Federal Hill.  Adding to the merriment was the wisecracking by auctioneer Prof. Michael Yelnosky.  Seth Aitken (3L) and Marci Pereira (2L) co-chaired the auction, working closely with Amy Peltier (3L) and Dawn Euer (2L) from the Association for Public Interest Law Board. Here are some pics from that fun evening.

The “Law Prom” returned to the Grand Ballroom of the Westin and was a chance for students to reveal that they own more than jeans and t-shirts.  It was a big turnout, and the dance floor was packed almost from the beginning.  Kudos to SBA President Payel Patel and her SBA colleagues for hosting this raucous evening.  Here are some candids from that fun event.
