Professor Kogan’s Mediation Clinic Wins Award
I am delighted to announce that the RWU School of Law Mediation Clinic, which opened just a year ago, is already being recognized for its excellent work. On January 24, at the Rhode Island Supreme Court, the Clinic was awarded the “Chief Justice Frank J. Williams Award for Promoting Mediation and Peaceful Conflict Resolution” by the Community Mediation Center of Rhode Island.
Conceived and directed by Professor Bruce Kogan, approximately 10 law students each semester fan out across the state to provide conflict resolution in an array of settings, from disputes over noisy neighbors to bitterly-contested family law matters. To get a sense of how the RWU clinic is making a difference in the important work of the RI Family Court, click here to read an article in the RI Bar Quarterly by Hon. Laureen D’Ambra and her daughter Christine (an ‘07 grad).
The Mediation Clinic, based in Bristol, is but one of the ways that RWU students get “hands on” practical learning that prepares them for the practice of law. In addition to distinctive clinics, RWU students may also participate in our unique Pro Bono Collaborative, which links leading law firms, community-based organizations, and law students, to deliver legal services for the least fortunate Rhode Islanders.
