One Student’s Story: Lavender Law Conference ‘08

One of our students, Damaris Tamm-Daniels (’10), recently attended the 2008 Lavender Law Conference.  Here are a few words from her about her experience:

“This fall, five Roger Williams Law students, all members of our LGBT Alliance, traveled to San Francisco for the annual Lavender Law Conference organized by the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association.

This three-day event featured panel discussions and presentations for educators, attorneys, students and advocates.  There was something for everyone--from family law, tax issues, LGBT people of color, gender expression, and the Solomon Amendment-- and the event provided ideas for programs to develop here at RWU, as well as practical tips that will be useful in practice.  Students also participated in a career fair with over 150 major employers represented. What a great experience to see the value that these firms place in having LGBT lawyers at their firms.

and Phil Robinson (’09).

After three days, we left Lavender Law with a greater understanding of important milestones in LGBT history and a keen awareness of the various ways in which practitioners, organizers, community activists and clients are working together for recognition, dignity, and equality for millions of Americans.”
