Alumna named to National Association for Community Mediation
Victoria Moreno-Jackson ‘06, program director at the Community Mediation Center of Rhode Island (CMCRI), was named to the Board of Directors for the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM). NAFCM is a non-profit association supporting community mediation centers across the nation. Victoria will help NAFCM raise funds to better support community mediation centers without raising annual dues.
She joined CMCRI in 2006 as a program associate after finishing law school. Beginning in January 2006, while in law school, Victoria both interned and volunteered with CMCRI, and she began as a Program Associate with the agency in September of 2006. In June of 2007 Victoria took on the job of Program Director, where she currently works managing the Center’s court and community programs, and supervising CMCRI’s Program Associates and volunteers.
Victoria works alongside another RWU Law alumna, Pamela Humphreys Muschiano ‘07, at CMCRI. Pamela is the program associate for the Juvenile Restorative Justice Project. CMCRI’s Juvenile Restorative Justice Project was the perfect opportunity for Pam to combine her education, experience and passion for working with youth in an interdisciplinary and community-based atmosphere with a focus on conflict resolution and strengths-based programming.
Pamela took Professor Bruce Kogan’s intensive mediation certification course while in law school. The mediation course prepares law students to participate in the mediation clinic which offers the opportunity to mediate disputes in Providence and Newport courts. The RWU mediation clinic provides services to the local communities on many legal and non-legal matters. The students in the clinic have received high praises for their hard work and are often called upon by local agencies and the courts for assistance.
Providence Business News posted a story about Victoria earlier this month.
Congratulations to Victoria for her recent appointment.
