Board of Directors: Roscoe Howard
The RWU School of Law has the support of top lawyers inside and outside of Rhode Island. One of them is Roscoe Howard. Mr. Howard brings to the School of Law Board of Directors a wealth of experience in both the government and private sectors. A graduate of Brown (where he played football) and the University of Virginia (J.D. 1977), Mr. Howard excelled in the academy (he was a tenured member of the faculty at the University of Kansas School of Law) and has served in a number of important public capacities: from 2001-2004, he was United States Attorney for the District of Columbia (the top federal law enforcement official in DC), an especially challenging and important assignment in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the nearby Pentagon. He also served as Associate Independent Counsel in two federal investigations of cabinet-level wrongdoing, and as a front line prosecutor in the capacity of Assistant United States Attorney.
Mr. Howard is now in private practice with Troutman Sanders in Washington, D.C., where he specializes in “white collar defense” work, and because of his wealth of experience he has been sought out by the media for his thoughts on complex and controversial issues, like those surrounding political pressure from the White House on Department of Justice investigations. Update: More recently, Mr. Howard was quoted in the Wall Street Journal about his office’s investigation of U.S. companies making illegal payments to foreign groups. Click here for a preview of that story.
Update: After being on both sides of investigations, Troutman Sanders partner Roscoe Howard tells in-house attorneys how to prepare for surprise visits from government agents. Click here for a more on that story.
