Oh, What A Feeling

Hello everyone and welcome to my law school blog! My name is Alison and I am a currently a third year at RWU School of Law.  As for a brief introduction, I am from Yardley, Pennsylvania and went to Providence College for undergrad.  I graduated from PC in 2005 and began law school the following fall.  Currently, I live in South Dartmouth, MA and plan on taking the bar in Massachusetts and practicing somewhere in the area.  I spent the summer interning at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island and had a wonderful experience.

Working at BCBSRI made me realize how many options a law degree provides you.  Many people who work at Blue Cross had law degrees and worked in areas other than Legal.  It is nice to know there are some many other paths a law degree can lead you down and I was lucky enough to become familiar with some of them.  My favorite experience of the summer was being able to sit in on a Senate meeting at the Capitol; it was great to be around lobbyists and watch them craft a bill that everyone was at least pleased with.  So many people sitting around the table were attorneys and for once I felt like I had found an area I would enjoy.
Thus far, I have been searching for my niche, searching for something I love, and would love doing.  I have a passion for politics, and for the law, and feel lobbying for something I have a great deal of interest in, such as Health Care, would be a wonderful place for me to make a difference.  When it all comes down to it, I really came to law school to make a difference; I always felt that a law degree would be my spring board into a career where I could help others, while still preserving my integrity and core values.

Though I am uncertain if lobbying will be something I end up doing, at least I know there are opportunities out there.  Even if I don’t see myself using my law degree in the traditional way, I know whatever I do, it will come in handy.  When I entered Roger Williams as a first year, I had no idea what I wanted to do.  Now, as a third year, I know I can do what I whatever (within reason!).

Although I have no idea where the next year will take me, I am very excited to be able to share it with you all!
