Life As A Law Student-An Introduction
Hello everyone! Welcome to the first entry of my life as a law student blog! First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Alison Natale and I am a Second Year Law student at Roger Williams University School of Law. I am originally from Yardley, PA, where my parents still live. I have one brother, Chris, who is a Junior Accounting Major at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. I completed my undergraduate degree at Providence College in 2005 where I majored in both Political Science and History and had a concentration in Broadcast Journalism.
In the Fall of 2003, I interned for Chris Matthews in Washington, D.C. when I attended the American University Washington Semester. Upon returning to P.C., I began interning in the Public Affairs and Media Relations department at the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, where I stayed until last summer. Interning both in Washington and in Providence made me realize how much of a passion for both politics and the law-making process, which made law school a very logical choice. Roger Williams was a natural choice for my legal education, seeing as it was both in Rhode Island, where I hope to practice, and is known for its compassionate teaching staff and close student body. Although I was waitlisted, once accepted I immediately decided to attend.
My first year of law school was challenging, to say the least. The workload was enormous, but fair, and the professors were amazing. Seeing as Roger Williams is a smaller law school, our class bonded immediatley.
I have made so many close friendships and nice to know I have people going through the same thing as me, as far as school work goes. Socially, the law school is great at providing fun events for students to attend. The Barrister’s Ball, which is an annual event in the Spring, is like the law school prom; everyone gets dressed up and it is a great time all-around.
Currently, I am clerking for a D’Amico-Burchfield, a law firm in Providence. The firm covers all aspects of the law, so I am getting a lot of experience in many different legal areas. My favorite so far is Health Care law and policy and I am considering getting my Master’s in the same after law school.
Aside from attending law school, I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend Joe, who is also a 2L at RWU Law, and our dog, Cutter.
We spend a lot of time with our friends from school and love to kick back and relax. We have both found a nice mix of academic and social freedom and try to cut ourselves off from work everyday at 5 p.m. (which is not always easy). I also enjoy spending time at the Gym and teach Spinning classes. During summers, I love to go to the beach and spend a lot of time on Martha’s Vineyard. I currently live in Bristol, which is great because it is right on the water and is such a cute town. It has a lot of really good restaurants and great shops.
Well thanks for checking out my first posting, stay tuned for more to come!
