Saving the Best for Last

The past three years of my academic career having been quite challenging.  Whether reading for class, preparing for a presentation, for studying for an exam, learning has consumed my life since stepping into RWU Law in August of 2005.  Looking back, it has been worth every ounce of pain, sweat, and tears.

It should be noted that although Senioritis does not exist in law school, this last semester has been the best and most fulfilling by far.  Not only did RWU Law have the opportunity to be graced with the presence of United States Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts in February, but we had an opportunity to be taught by Justice Scalia.  It’s an exciting time to be a student here, to say the least.

This semester I also had the opportunity to participate in the Mediation Clinic, which has been by far, the best experience I have had here.  I had the chance to mediate cases both in Small Claims Court in Newport and in Family Court in Washington County.  The clinic allowed me to put my mediation education to use and it was extremely exciting.  Helping others reach and craft a settlement is such a fulfilling feeling; it’s so rewarding to be able to facilitate a resolution to an often times emotionally taxing dispute.

Additionally, I completed my public service recently and had the great pleasure to work at a small firm on Cape Cod doing pro bono work.  Being able to give back to those less fortunate by way of my legal education was a great experience.  I actually got to meet the people I was helping and I must say putting a name to a case really makes an impact.

As I prepare to enter my last week as a law student, I can honestly say I have enjoyed my time here at RWU.  I have gained so much more than a legal education- I have gained life experiences that I will carry with me long after I leave the law school building for the last time.
