Welcome Back
Well we are back and in the swing of things. 2009 is shaping up to be a truly busy and eventful year. I have already started filling out my bar application and getting together all of the necessary information. For all of you current and future law students out there understand that this task is anything, but easy. Filling out a bar application is like asking to get into the secret service. They want to know everything…and I do mean everything. My suggestion for all or you future 3l’s is to at least glance at the application and all of the requirements for the jurisdiction in which you want to practice and have some idea of what will be required of you. After all every jurisdiction is different and they all want a wide range of different things from your job history since the day you were legal to work, to your credit and criminal past. It is a lot of information to gather in a short time.
And then there are the bar courses. Which ones to take? Where to Study? How to study? The questions just keep coming. For me the answer is to start practicing now, take a little of the stress away and leave me time to take a break closer to the bar, when I am just about ready to pull my hair out. But it is all well and good, you got to learn to like the stress and love the work. Hopefully in the end it is all worth it and you come out of law school with a great experience that has made you into a better stronger individual. I know that all of the things that I have gone through in law school, has definitely made me more aware of my surroundings and individual interest.
In fact, participation this semester in the Mediation Clinic has definitely made me more aware of everybody’s individual perspective and vast differences in human interpretation. So far the mediation clinic has been a wonderful experience. Being in court is a very interesting lesson in what civil procedure does not teach you. It is truly eye opening. I would suggest that every student before going out into the “real” world takes part in any clinic the school offers so that they can get a grasp on how the court functions and the unique lingo that each individual judge adopts.
Well that is all for now. Have a great week everyone.
