Glad That’s Over
Well I finished my last day of the Equal Justice Works Conference, and boy am I glad that’s over. It is such nerve-racking experience to have someone, anyone, criticize and critique you. Plus, it is even more daunting to walk into a room filled with hundreds of people and just start talking to employers. But in the long run it is a good experience, not something I would do every day or as a hobby, but nevertheless a good thing. The more you work at it the better you get and the easier it gets to break into conversation about what you are looking for, your interests, weaknesses etc. If there is one piece of advice I can share from this experience it is get legal experience early on. Start looking in your first year for anything legal. I came to find this weekend that my biggest weakness twas not the ability to talk to people, or even being too shy, but rather not having enough legal work experience. But other than the scary task of talking to strangers and promoting myself to a vast array of employers, DC was great. There is always something inspiring about being among politicians, lawyers, and judges and seeing the Constitution at work. The city is beautiful and the people are friendly and helpful. And the city is so exciting, after all you never know who you might bump into on the streets of D.C.
